Why I built this
I spent five days a week seeing twenty to thirty clients a day for $35 an hour.
Burning out wasn’t bad luck. It was always coming.
So I went out on my own, with no guidance and not much business experience, and made most of it up. I started in a single room, one day a week. That part worked.
Then I opened a second location half an hour across town, on a two-year lease, because I assumed two locations meant more clients. I was also renting rooms in two GP clinics on completely different terms. It was a mess, and it was expensive.
I spent thousands on courses and coaching trying to fix it. Most of it was vague, and none of it was built for someone at my stage.
I worked it out eventually. Built a practice with staff, ran it for years, and then left it to build something else. I’ve spent the last two years on HealthMate, a healthtech company.
That’s meant a lot of conversations with practitioners, and I keep hearing my own mistakes handed back to me. Same wrong turns, same expensive lessons, same good clinicians burning out on the way to something they could have reached far more easily. It’s the part I can’t leave alone.
Here’s what I’d want someone to have told me back then: you don’t have to resign to start, you don’t have to guess at the order, and the mistakes I paid to learn are all avoidable.
That’s what this is.
Who this is for
This is for you if:
- You're employed and you've started wondering what the alternative looks like
- You've gone out on your own recently and you're making it up as you go
- You're solo and stuck, and can't tell whether the problem is pricing, marketing or capacity
- You want to grow and don't know whether the next move is more days, a second room, or a first hire
It works whether you’re mobile, telehealth, in a clinic, or a mix, and whether you want three days a week on your own or five rooms and a team. It doesn’t push you toward a size. It helps you build the one you actually want.
This isn’t for you if:
- You want someone to run your practice for you. This tells you what to do. You do it.
- You're after a quick fix. The first meaningful change takes about twelve weeks.
- You want to be told you're ready when you're not. The assessment will tell you to wait if waiting is the right call.
Unlike most of what’s out there, this doesn’t assume you already have a business running. It’s built for the part before that.
